Horace HERRING

Hank Herring won the 1948 Chicago Intercity Golden Gloves title as a welterweight and made the US Olympic team. At the Olympics, Herring lost a decision to Július Torma of Czechoslovakia in the welterweight finals. Herring later boxed professionally from January 1949 through July 1950, fighting exclusively in California. He won his first four pro fights, but that was about it, ending with a record of 5 wins, 7 losses, and 1 draw. Herring served in the US Navy in World War II, working as a cook. He won the Senior Navy welterweight title in 1946 and the All-Navy welterweight crown in 1947.
