Biografie

Between 1896, when he lost his first ABA lightweight final to A. Vanderhout, and 1899, when he beat Vanderhout to win his first title, Bert Brewer won nearly 30 events. He failed to successfully defend his ABA title in 1900 when beaten by G. W. Humphries in the final. After that, following a weight increase, Brewer quit competitive boxing for a few years. However, after getting involved in coaching, he decided to make a comeback and went on to win the ABA heavyweight title in 1907. Despite conceding weight and height to Albert Ireton, Brewer outsmarted, and outclassed his opponent. The ABA success led to Brewer gaining Olympic selection in 1908, where he was unlucky to be drawn against Frank Parks in his opening bout, and Brewer lost on a decision.
