George Parker was the Australian flag-bearer at the opening ceremony of the 1920 Antwerpen Olympics. After having won the silver medal in the 3,000 m walk on the track, beaten only by the Italian Ugo Frigerio, the best race walker of his era, Parker dropped out of his second event, the 10,000 m walk. In 1920, 1922 and 1926 he was Australasian Champion in both the one- and three-mile walks.
