Biografie

Emil Rausch, a swimmer from Berlin, won the first German swimming gold medal in the 1904 880 yard freestyle with a time of 13:11.4. He added another gold in the one mile freestyle in 27:18.2, and a bronze in the 220 yard freestyle. Two years later in Athina Rausch finished fifth in the one mile freestyle and earned a silver medal in the 4x250 metres freestyle relay.

From 1901-07 Rausch was German Champion in the 1,500 metres freestyle, and in 1903 and 1905 also in the 100 free. In 1968 he was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame. Rausch was one of the great German swimmers of all-time and internationally known over a period of more than 10 years. He swam for the Schwimmclub Poseidon-Berlin and started for his club in competitions in Germany, England, Greece, Italy, Austria, Hungary and the USA.
