Biografie

Emerson Norton was overshadowed as a decathlete by Harold Osborn but, like Osborn, he was also a fine high jumper. His best performance in that event came at the 1923 Penn Relays when he tied Leroy Brown at 6-3¾ (1.92) and then won the jump-off. He was a consistent performer on the indoor circuit, winning the IC4A high jump in 1925 and sharing the title in 1926. At the indoor AAU championships he was runner-up in 1927 and placed third in 1928. Surprisingly Norton only competed in one AAU decathlon, placing third in 1923. After obtaining degrees from Kansas and Georgetown, Emerson Norton worked as a lawyer for the Air Defense Command and the Department of Defense.

Personal Best: Dec – 6117 (1924).
