Biografie

Darius Young was a pistol shooter who competed at the 1988 and 1992 Olympics, starting his Olympic career at 50-years-old at Seoul. Young earned an education degree from Colorado State University in 1962, and gained a masters’ degree from there in 1964. He earned his PhD in industrial technology from The Ohio State University in 1968. Young competed in over 100 international events, starting in 1958. He was a 12-time US champion, and set 18 US shooting records and 26 Canadian national records. He competed at every Pan American Games from 1979-95, winning 11 medals and 5 gold medals. Young was an alternate to the 1980 and 1984 US Olympic Teams. He was the only US shooter to win national titles in all five pistol events – free, standard, air, rapid-fire, center-fire.

Young served for many years in the US Army Reserve and won distinguished service awards in service rifle, service pistol and international pistol. He and his wife later settled in Alberta, Canada, where he served as a professor of education at the University of Alberta.
