Biografie

Christer Majbäck’s father Sven, himself once an active skier, brought him to cross-country skiing as well as into the art of waxing. Sven Majbäck continued to prepare his son’s skis for races worldwide in his skiing career. Christer had his breakthrough when he finished third at a World Cup race in the then Soviet Union in December 1985. He competed at three Winter Olympics, starting in 1988 with an 11th in the 15 km run. His most successful games were in Albertville in 1992, when he won a bronze medal in the 10 km, coming from behind, and missing silver by just over a second. In 1994, he competed again in four events with two sixth places. Majbäck's biggest successes were at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships where he earned five medals, including one gold (relay at Lahti in 1989), two silvers (10 km and relay, both at Val di Fiemme in 1991), and two bronzes (both in 30 km at Oberstdorf in 1987 and in 1989). He participated four times in the Vasaloppet with a second place in 1997 as his best result. Nationally, he won two Swedish Championships in 1990 over 30 km and 50 km. He also won two World Cup and FIS Races in his career in 1989 and in 1997, respectively, and competed until 1999. Even before the end of his career in 1996 he bought up a wax business in Kiruna, because he was always interested in this topic. He takes part in the tests himself and is present at most major ski championships. Since 1999, he also sells skiwear.
