Baker's boy Antonio Bailetti crowned his amateur career by winning the Olympic gold medal in the team time trial. He turned pro with the Bianchi team, switching to Carpano the next season. His most impressive victory came in 1962, when he won a stage in the Giro d'Italia after a 120 km solo escape. That same year, he also won a stage in the Tour de France, and he repeated with stage victories in both races in 1963. Among his other major victories were the 1966 Trofeo Laigueglia and Nice - Genua in 1962. His career, already in decline, was abruptly ended by a heavy fall in the spring of 1969.
