Biografie

Hailing from Turkey's easternmost parts, Ahmet Kıbıl debuted at the Olympics while he was still 15-years-old. Despite this, he still finished as the best ranked of four Turkish competitors in the 1968 Olympic giant slalom, coming 82nd overall (out of 101 competitors and 88 finishers). From 1971 to 1975, Kıbıl won the Turkish national skiing title, and in 1976 he competed in his second Olympics. Two years earlier, he had placed a credible 15th (though last) at the combined event in the World Championships in St. Moritz. After his active career, Kıbıl served as a coach and president of the Turkish Skiing and Snowboarding Federation. At 59, he succumbed to lung cancer at Cerrahpasa hospital.
