Volger Andersson’s major international success was the bronze medal in the 50 km race at the 1928 Winter Olympics, although he was 13:43 behind gold medalist [Per Erik Hedlund]. With Gustaf Jonsson in second Swedish athletes took all three medals. Andersson also competed in the 18 km but abandoned the race. His medal came as a surprise because he was considered as a reserve. In 1924 Andersson and other Swedish runners had declined the invitation to the Olympics on the grounds that they “had to think about the district championships.)
