السيرة الذاتية

Vikas Gowda is the Indian discus thrower who hurled himself into Indian athletics stardom, gracing four Olympic Games before his retirement in 2018.

Born in Mysore on 5th July 1983, Vikas Gowda moved to Maryland in the United States when he was six years old. He initially thought to build a career in shot put but his huge frame made him better suited for discus throw, the sport where he ultimately earned a lot of accolades.

Athletics was a natural path for Vikas - his father Shive Gowda was a part of the backroom staff for the Indian track and field athletes at the 1988 Olympics.

Vikas Gowda first turned heads at the 2002 IAAF World Junior Championships and went to the Athens 2004 Olympics as a rookie.

Athens proved to be a good learning experience for Gowda, as he finished in a highly respectable 15th place.

That result helped propel him to silver at the 2005 Asian Championship before he shattered the Indian national record with a throw of 64.69 metres at the NCAA Championships the following year.
