Tim Mayotte grew up playing on public courts in Springfield, Massachusetts and then played in college at Stanford, winning the 1981 NCAA singles title. He turned professional in 1982 and played through 1992, reaching a career high singles rank of #7 in October 1988. Mayotte won 12 professional titles on the ATP Tour. Known as a serve-and-volley player, he made the semi-finals at Wimbledon in 1982 and the Australian Open in 1983, and the quarter-finals of the 1989 US Open. He also made it to the finals at the 1985 WCT Finals, and won a silver medal in singles at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. Mayotte later coached tennis and was named USTA National team coach in 2009. He has also served as a volunteer assistant coach at Harvard.
