Tauna Vandeweghe came from one of the great sporting families in the United States. Her father, Dr. Ernie Vandeweghe, played in the NBA and was later team doctor for the Los Angeles Lakers, while her brother, Kiki Vandeweghe, was a star basketball player at UCLA and then the NBA. Their mother was the 1952 Miss America, Coleen Kay Hutchins. Tauna’s daughter, Coco Vandeweghe, played tennis on the WTA tour in the 2010s.

Only a high school student at the time of the 1976 Olympics, Tauna Vandeweghe would swim for UCLA, and then attended graduate school in broadcast journalism at Southern Cal. She was AAU indoor champion in the 1975 100 yard backstroke, placing second in the 200 yard back that year, and she was second in the 1976 Olympic Trials in the 100 metre backstroke. She also played volleyball at UCLA and briefly played on the US national volleyball team in preparation for the 1984 Olympics.

Vandeweghe worked in broadcasting in the 1980s, with ESPN and Sports Channel in Los Angeles and New York. She was in marketing, involved in the early stages of SoBe and had over 20 years of global diversified financial and business development experience. She has worked with Niken in sales, marketing, and private equity, and then became Director of Business Development for CB Capital Partners.
