Shelly Steely was a distance runner who ran the 3,000 metres at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. She was US Champion in the 3K in 1991 and was runner-up at that distance in 1984 and 1992-93. Steely later switched to longer distances and was runner-up at 10K at the 1998 USA Nationals. That year she was also fourth at 10K at the Goodwill Games. Steely also moved to the roads, was the 1998 US Champion in the 25 km road race, and was the 1998 USA Running Circuit Grand Prix champion. Steely attended the University of Florida, graduating in 1985, where she was third in the 3,000 metres at the 1984 NCAA Meet. She was named an All-American five times at Florida, and was a nine-time All-Southeastern Conference selection. Steely married Aaron Ramirez, a distance runner who competed at the 1992 Olympics.

Personal Best: 3000 – 8:41.28 (1992).
