Sándor Ivády won a silver medal with Hungary after losing the final to Germany at Amsterdam in 1928. In 1932 the team defeated Germany to win the gold medal. He was also a substitute at the 1924 Olympics, and in 1931 and 1934 was a member of European Championship teams. From 1924 until the end of his career Ivády played 67 international matches for Hungary, with his only Hungarian Championship coming in 1928. A shoulder injury ended his active career.

Ivády held a Ph.D. in political science from the University of Szeged and worked for various banks. From 1933-45 he was an employee of the Ministry of Agriculture. From 1937-39 he was coach of the national team leading the team to a European title. After World War II he was interned in Kistarcsa and Recsk. Starting in 1956 he lived in Wien (Vienna) and worked as a coach and in various unskilled jobs. His father, Béla was a well-known politician and minister in Hungary.
