السيرة الذاتية

Ralph Gilman was a top high school swimmer in California before enrolling at The Ohio State University. In 1936 he placed second in the 220 yard freestyle at the AAU indoors, trailing Jack Medica. Gilman placed fifth at the 1936 US Olympic Trials which earned him a spot on the 4x200 relay team. Unfortunately he badly scraped his right arm before going to the Olympics, and it became infected, which made him questionable for the Olympics. Fortunately the infection cleared and he was able to compete in the preliminaries for the US 4x200 free relay. After the Olympics, Gilman never returned to Ohio State, instead joining a steamship company in California, where he eventually became one of their executives.
