Peter Sturholdt boxed at the 1904 St. Louis Olympics. He was born in Minnesota to German immigrants, and Peter grew up with no formal education. He later became a painter and cabinet maker. Sturholdt died when he fell from a scaffold that broke while he was painting.
Sturholdt was effectively a bronze medalist at the 1904 Olympics, though he likely never received a medal and this was only discovered (by our group) more than 100 years later. In 1905, one of the medalists, Jack Egan, who was really Frank Floyd, was discovered to be fighting under an alias. In November 1905, the AAU disqualified him and made him return his prizes. This would move Sturholdt up to third place, interesting as he never won a match in the tournament.
