Marcos TORRES

Marco Torrès grew up as the son of a blacksmith in Oran, Algeria. He placed seventh in the individual all-around gymnastics in 1912, and in 1920 won the silver medal in the same event and added a bronze medal in the team event (European system). At the World Championships in 1909 and 1913 he won three gold medals each, in the all-around (individual and team), the rings and the horizontal bar adding four silver medals in this period, and therefore, was one of the favorites for the Antwerp Olympics. Torrès also won French all-around titles in 1912 and 1913. His last major international success was a bronze medal with the French team in the all-around at the 1922 World Championships. His parents came from Spain and his Spanish name was Torrès Candela.
