Lars Jørgen Madsen was a prominent Danish sport shooter at the start of 20th century. Madsen competed at five Olympics during his career, winning individual free rifle, standing gold in 1900; team military rifle, standing gold in 1920; individual free rifle, three positions silver in 1912; individual military rifle, standing silver in 1920; and team free rifle, three positions bronze in 1912. At the World Championships, Madsen won three golds (free rifle, three positions in 1899; free rifle, standing in 1900 and 1908), three silvers (free rifle, standing in 1899 and 1911; free rifle, kneeling in 1924) and seven bronzes (free rifle, prone in 1914; free rifle, standing in 1922; free rifle, three positions in 1914; team free rifle, three positions in 1899, 1914 and 1922; and team free pistol in 1924). By profession Madsen was a medical doctor, graduating with a medical degree from København University in 1900. From 1900 until his death in 1925, Madsen practiced medicine in Harridslev.
