Hammer thrower Karl Storch won the silver medal at the 1952 Helsinki Olympic Games. At the 1954 European Championships he qualified for the final, but could not start due to an injury. He was runner-up at the German Championships in 1938 and 1939, and won German titles during the war years 1941-43. After World War II Storch was West German Champion in 1948, 1950, 1952, 1954, and 1955, and in 1952 was the first German hammer thrower to surpass 60 metres.

Storch was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf in 1952 and the Rudolf Harbig Memorial Award in 1954. His hometown Fulda named a street after him. After his sports career he became the owner of a sports shop and a construction company in Fulda. Storch was also active politically, and belonged to the Fulda City Council.
