John Crosby, Jr. competed for Southern Connecticut University, where he earned a bachelor’s and masters’ degree. From 1971-73 he won 13 NCAA titles. As a senior he was given the Nissen Award as the nation’s top collegiate gymnast. Crosby competed for the US on 18 international teams from 1970-75, including the 1972 Olympics, the 1973 Universiade, the 1974 World Championships, and the World Invitational in 1971 and 1974. At the 1971 Pan American Games Crosby starred by winning eight medals, two golds on rings and floor, silvers in all-around, team all-around, high bar, parallel bars, and pommeled horse, and a bronze medal on vault. Crosby won US Championships on floor in 1971, floor and high bar in 1973, and all-around, floor and vault in 1974. After college Crosby joined the Marine Corps where he was an aviator. In the 1990s he returned to school and earned a law degree from Hofstra University in 1997. He later worked as a legal analyst for the State of Arizona Department of Economic Security.
