Jerry Winholtz wrestled in both the lightweight and welterweight divisions at the 1904 Olympics. He lost his first match as a lightweight and was eliminated. In the welterweight class, Winholtz met Charles Ericksen in the first round, and gave the eventual champion a good match before losing by decision. Records have not survived, but Winholtz probably wrestled at least another match to win his bronze medal because there were several losers eligible to compete for that place.
Winholtz was born in Iowa but wrestled for the Chicago Central YMCA in 1904. He was a member of the Chicago section of the International Concatenated Order of Hoo-Hoo, a fraternal and service organization whose members were involved in the forest products industry.
