In 1919, even before his Olympic gold medal, Helge Løvland received the Egebergs Ærespris, a Norwegian sports award awarded annually for outstanding athletic performance. In 1918 and 1919 he was the first athlete to receive the Royal Cup in two consecutive years. At the 1920 Olympics he was the Norwegian flag bearer at the Opening Ceremony. From 1914-20 Løvland won 11 Norwegian Championships – five in the 110 m hurdles (1914, 1917-20), two in the pentathlon (1918-19) and decathlon (1919-20), and one each in the discus (1920) and long jump (1919).

Løvland, a professional soldier, later became a coach and sports official, serving as Secretary General of the Norwegian Sports Association and the Norwegian Olympic Committee from 1930-40. After World War II, Løvland was Chairman of the Sports Council of the Armed Forces. In 2001, his hometown unveiled a monument in his honor.
