السيرة الذاتية

West German boxer Günther Meier won a light-middleweight bronze medal at the 1968 Mexico Olympics. He lost to the eventual champion Boris Lagutin, from the Soviet Union, by a clear 1-4 decision in their semi-final. Four years later, Meier moved up to welterweight at the München Games, and again lost to the eventual Olympic Champion, this time in the quarter-final, when beaten by Cuban Emilio Correa, who had beaten East German Manfred Wolke in the previous round. Meier then retired, and started a career as an amateur coach. By profession, he was a paratrooper at the German Bundeswehr and later became a sports teacher.

Domestically Meier won the West German national titles in 1965-66 and 1968 in the light-middleweight division, and in 1970-71 at welterweight. He also won the European welterweight title in 1969, beating Romanian Victor Zilberman in the final.
