Fritz Huhn finished disappointing a 17th at the 1928 Amsterdam Olympic Games in the high jump. He was German Champion in 1923 and 1926, runner-up in 1925 and 1928, and third in 1929. An educated gymnast and sports teacher, he later became a successful high jump coach and lecturer on German high jump style at international meetings. He also is credited with developing the straddle technique, derived from the Western roll. In 1936 at Berlin he was the umpire for the high jump judges.

After World War II Huhn apprenticed as a glassblower in his father’s company in Jena. He led this company after his father’s death until 1952, when he defected to West Germany, then working as a school teacher. His brother Ernst was seen as a candidate for the 1916 Berlin Olympic Games which were not held due to World War I.
