Friedrich Scharrer finished third in the Greco-Roman 60.0 kg class at the unofficial World Championships held in Vienna 1911. He qualified for the 1912 Olympics when he finished second (next to Heinrich Rauß) in the featherweight class at the selecting competition held in Vienna (Apollo-Säle) on 9 June 1912. Two month after the Olympics Scharrer won the Greco-Roman 60.0 kg class at the unofficial European Championship.
