السيرة الذاتية

Having won the 1987 World Championships and the 1988 European Championships in the trap event, Dmytro Monakov was favored to win at the Seoul 1988 Olympics. But he had fierce competition from Miloslav Bednařík, who was still tied with him after 200 shots in the qualification and 25 additional shots in the final. Only after eight shots in the shoot-off did the Czechslovakian fail, the gold going to Monakov. Monakov went on to compete for Ukraine, winning a second World Championships gold in 1994. His second Olympic appearance, in 1996, was unremarkable, and he went on to coach the Ukrainian shooting team. He died, only 44 years old, likely due to a blood clot.
