Dan Middleman was a distance runner who ran the 10K at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. He also competed at the 1992 Olympic Trials in the steeplechase, but did not make the US team. Middleman ran in college at the University of Florida where he won five SEC (Southeastern Conference) titles. He competed at the 1989 and 1993 Maccabiah Games and in 2001, adopted Israeli nationality. He later wrote a novel about running, entitled Pain, and a follow-up novel, Burden. Middleman later worked as a sports editor at a small newspaper in North Carolina and then became a special education teacher and coached cross-country in the Raleigh, North Carolina area.
