After winning an Olympic gold medal in 1908, Clyde Purnell picked up at FA Amateur Cup winner’s medal the following season when he scored once in Clapton’s 6-0 victory over Easton United. He won four amateur caps but never played in a full international. At the 1908 Olympics, playing at inside-left, Purnell scored four goals in Britain’s first-round victory over Sweden. He lived in Muswell Hill, North London, but died on Folkestone Racecourse.
