Aleksey Zhamnov began his hockey career in 1988 with Dynamo Moskva, playing there until 1992. With Dynamo Moskva Zhamnov won Soviet titles in 1990-91 and a CIS title in 1992. In 1992 Zhamnov joined the NHL Winnipeg Jets and played with them until in 1996 when he joined the Chicago Black Hawks. From 2002-04 Zhamnov was the captain of the Black Hawks. In 2004, Zhamnov joined the Philadelphia Flyers and played his last season with the Boston Bruins (2005-06). Internationally, besides his three Olympic medals, Zhamnov was European Champion in 1991 and won bronzes at the 1991 World Championships and 1996 World Cup, also winning a gold at the 1990 Goodwill Games. After finishing his playing career, Zhamnov worked as a manager of Vityaz Chekhov. He is married to the daughter of Valery Vasilyev, who won golds at the 1972 and 1976 Winter Olympics and a silver in 1980.
