Bill Looby played with the US national team between 1954-59, earning eight caps, and scoring six international goals as a forward. He played professionally in the St. Louis league for his entire career, starting with Dohle’s of the St. Louis Major League in 1949. In 1950 he moved to Zenthoefer Furs in the St. Louis Municipal League, but later that year moved to the St. Louis Raiders, helping them win the National Amateur Cup in 1952. After that victory Looby moved to the Kutis team, playing with them from 1954-70, leading the Municipal League in scoring in 1954. He also helped Kutis won six consecutive National Amateur Cup titles from 1956-61, win the 1957 National Challenge Cup, in which he scored both goals in the final match.

Before the 1956 Olympics, Looby played with the national team on a tour of the Orient. He later played with the 1959 Pan American team that won a bronze medal. Looby was an alternate for both the 1960 and 1964 Olympic Team. He is a member of the Saint Louis Soccer Hall of Fame (1984) and the National Soccer Hall of Fame (2001).
