Thomas LeBoutillier came from a prominent wealthy family. He attended Yale, graduating in 1899 and was a member of the Mandolin Club. He grew up on Long Island’s North Shore, and was a prominent polo player. His brother Phillip ran Best & Co., a well-known men’s clothier, while Thomas’s job was as an importer of French fences. His son, also Thomas LeBoutillier, became a military test pilot and later worked for Grumman Corporation as a test pilot. The Olympian Thomas LeBoutillier died of a cerebral hemorrhage that he sustained while in a polo tournament in Old Westbury, Long Island.
