Steve Plasencia was a distance runner who ran the 10K at the 1988 and 1992 Olympics. Internationally he also represented the US in the marathon at the 1995 World Championships, finishing 10th. He was US Champion in the 10K in 1990, and placed second at the nationals in the 5K in 1980 and 1984, and in the 10K in 1987, 1991, and 1993-94. His most important marathon win was the 1992 California International Marathon, won in 2-14:14. Plasencia later became the head track and cross-country coach at the University of Minnesota.
