个人信息

A Commonwealth Games silver-medallist, a two-time Olympian and one of the world’s best drag flickers in his prime, Sandeep Singh is Indian hockey legend and one of its most inspirational captains.

Born on 27 February 1986, in the town of Shahabad in Kurukshetra, Haryana, Sandeep Singh took up hockey out of spite.

His elder brother Bikramjeet Singh was a promising hockey player during his childhood and a young Sandeep Singh was envious of Bikramjeet’s kit and hockey gear. He wanted a set for himself and his mother Daljit Kaur assured him that he would get it if he took up the sport.

It was all the motivation Sandeep Singh needed to play hockey and soon his talent came to the fore. He made waves at the youth level and earned him a fine reputation for his powerful drag-flicks, later considered to be one of the best in the world.

Sandeep Singh’s performances soon led to a call-up to the Indian hockey team for the 2004 Sultan Azlan Shah Cup. He only scored a solitary goal as India finished last but his drag-flick abilities and all-round skills with the hockey stick had impressed the national selectors.
