Bob Cochran was a member of America’s foremost skiing family, as he had three sisters also compete in the Olympics for the US – Barbara, Marilyn, and Lindy. Bob Cochran skied the World Cup circuit from 1969-74. His greatest victory came in 1973 when he became the first American to win gold on the Hahnenkamm, in the combined. Later that year he won his only World Cup race, a giant slalom at Heavenly Valley, California. In 1971 Cochran was US champion in downhill, slalom and combined, and during his career he won two national titles in every discipline. Cochran skied for the University of Vermont. He later became a doctor, with a family practice in Keene, New Hampshire.
