Mainly a javelin thrower, Otto Nilsson competed in that event (both classical and freestyle) at the 1908 and 1912 Olympics, winning a bronze medal in the 1908 classical javelin throw. He also competed in the discus at both Olympics, but with less success. He was always in the shadow of the great Swedish javelin thrower Eric Lemming, and Nilsson thus won only two national javelin titles (1901, 1906). Nilsson did win five national titles in discus (1899, 1901-02, 1906, 1909) and four in the shot put (1902-03, 1906-07), setting national records in both events. He also competed in swimming, wrestling, weightlifting, football, and gymnastics.
Personal Bests: DT – 39.42 (1912); JT – 52.73 (1912).
