Fourth place in both the 100m and the 200 at the 1968 Final Trials earned the virtually unknown Mildrette Netter of Alcorn A&M a place on the 1968 Olympic relay team. After the Trials she confirmed her form by taking third place in both sprints at the AAU and then in Mexico won an Olympic gold medal and two world record plaques as the U.S. relay team beat the previous global best in both heats and the final. Four years later, in München, Netter was the only member of the 1968 team to compete again in the relay – this time the U.S. finished fourth.
Personal Bests: 100 – 11.3 (1968); 200 – 23.9 (1969).
