Marilyn Cochran was from the first family of American skiing, the Cochrans, as two of her sisters and a brother also skied for the US in the Olympics. Cochran skied the World Cup circuit from 1967-74, winning the 1968-69 giant slalom World Cup title. She competed in the World Championships in 1970 and 1974, finishing third in the combined in 1970, and sixth in slalom and giant slalom that year. She was eighth in giant slalom at the 1974 Worlds. Cochran won three World Cup races, one in GS and two in slalom, had 14 podium finishes, and 53 top 10s. Cochran skied for the Madonna Mountain Ski Club and attended the University of Vermont. Continuing the family tradition, her son, Roger Brown, was on the US Ski Team and was 2002 NCAA slalom champion. Another son, Douglas Brown, captained the ski team at St. Lawrence University. Marilyn Cochran married Chris Brown, an All-American skier at the University of Vermont who later became a professor of mechanical engineering at Worcester Polytech.
