As a part of the Italian pursuit quartet, Marco Cimatti won an Olympic gold medal in Los Angeles. He remained an amateur through 1933, finishing second in both the Italian sprint and cyclo-cross championships. He turned pro in 1934, and was quite successful in the Giro d'Italia. In the 1937 edition, he won 3 stages. He also won the first stage in 1938, allowing him to ride in the pink jersey, albeit just for one day. Cimatti also ran a small bike factory that sponsored a pro team in the years immediately after the War.
