West German rowers Heinz Renneberg and Heinz Eichholz lost their heat at the 1952 Helsinki Olympic Games in the coxless pairs but could not take part in the repêchage after Eichholz fell ill from nettle rash. Both men were German Champions in 1951 and 1952 and were runners-up in 1953. With Bernhard Knubel and 13-year-old Klaus Zerta Renneberg won the coxed pairs gold medal at the Rome Olympics in 1960. By profession, Renneberg was a machine fitter.
