Jukka Tammi, the top Finnish goaltender at the end of 1980s and start of 1990s, began his hockey career in 1980 with Ilves Tampere and played there most of his career. Tammi played with Ilves until 1995, then played one season with TuTo Turku and finished his career in Germany playing with the Frankfurt Lions from 1996-99. With Ilves Tammi won one Finnish title in 1985 and was named as MVP and best goaltender of the SM-liiga in 1990. Internationally Tammi won silver at the 1988 Winter Olympics and bronze at the 1994 Lillehammer Olympics. Tammi was also a member of the Finnish 1998 Winter Olympic team that won a bronze medal, but did not play in any match. Tammi was World Champion in 1995, won silver at the 1994 World Championships and bronzes at the 1985, 1986, 1987 and 1991 European Championships and 1991 Canada Cup. After finishing his playing career Tammi worked from 1999-2000 as goaltending coach with Ilves Tampere. He also owned a baby goods store chain and in 2008 was elected to the Pirkkala city council.
