At the 1960 Rome Olympic Games 19-year-old so-called sprint diva Jutta Heine won two silver medals for the mixed German team. In the 200 metres she was second behind famous Wilma Rudolph, and with the 4×100 relay together with Martha Langbein, Anni Biechl and Brunhilde Hendrix she won another silver. Four years later she finished fifth with the relay and was eliminated in the heats of the 200 when she was disqualified after two false starts. Heine also earned a gold medal in the 200, and two silvers in the 100 and 4×100 at the 1962 European Championships. The same year she was voted Sportswoman of the Year in West Germany. In the 200 metres she was West German Champion in 1959 and 1961-63, runner-up in 1960, and in the 100 metres won West German titles in 1962, was runner-up in 1959 and 1961, and won the pentathlon in 1960 and 1962.

Jutta Heine became an amateur harness race driver and first drove in public in April 1965 at Recklinghausen. In 1960 she received the "Silver Bay Leaf". She was earned a graduate degree in business. Since 1974 she has owned an old mill "Blue Mill", first mentioned around the year 1200, which she has restored and runs as a hotel for young riders in Burglahr in the Westerwald.
