J’me Carney was a track cyclist who won 22 US Championships. He won two medals in the Madison at the Pan American Games, silver in 1999 and bronze in 2003. Carney competed in the points race at the 1992 and 2000 Olympics, placing fifth in 2000, the best ever finish by an American in that event at the Olympics. He was twice a World Cup champion, winning the Madison in 2001 and the scratch race in 2002. He competed into his 40s, winning US titles in the Madison and scratch race in 2011, at age 42.

As a professional, Carney competed for Shaklee from 1994-2000, then was with Prime Alliance Cycling from 2001-03. He came back to compete for Team Fuji in 2006 and Salamander in 2011. Carney also raced on the roads. He won the 1999 Valley of the Sun Stage Race, along with a victory in Stage 2 of that race. He also won various criteriums and stages of smaller races in the US. Carney later became a cycling coach and manager. In 2008 he became competition director of the Cheerwine Woman’s Professional Cycling Team.
