Jacqueline Börner started her sports career at the age of four with track & field, turning to speed skating at age 10. After winning the bronze medal at the European Allround in 1987 and 1989, the Overall World Cup title in 1989 and the Gold Medal at the World Championships in World Allround. Thereafter she had a severe accident while training on her bike, when she was hit by a car. Beside head injuries she broke her foot and had a rupture of her anterior cruciate ligament. After months of rehabilitation she fought herself back earning two runner-ups at the 1991 German Championships (1,500 and 3,000 metres), qualifying for the Albertville Olympics where she had her biggest moment winning the gold medal in the 1,500 metres.

In 1997 she retired and became head of the speed skating department at her club Berliner TSC. She married her former coach Thomas Schubert in 2004.

Personal Bests: 500 – 40.90 (1996); 1000 – 1:20.55 (1987); 1500 – 2:04.54 (1990); 3000 – 4:19.86 (1990); 5000 – 7:31.51 (1990).
