Germaan Van De Moere, also seen listed as Germain, formed a successful partnership with Belgium's dominant kayaker of his era, Rik Verbrugghe. Together they claimed several Belgian titles, but also international success. At the 1958 World Championships, the claimed the gold in the K2 over 1,000 m - Belgium's first and - as of 2018 - only world title. A year earlier, they had grabbed a bronze medal at the Europeans (10,000 m). They never medalled at the Olympics, but placed 6th in the 1956 final. Van De Moere also competed individually (K1), winning a Belgian title in 1948 and competing in the 1950 worlds (10th over 10,000 m). After his active career, Van De Moere served as a coach for the Belgian national team, among others at three Olympics (1972-1980).
