Ernie Crosbie was born in England, where his father was a chief engineer on the Cunard Shipping Line, but the family moved to the USA when Ernie was a young boy. He competed in the 50 km. walk at the Olympics three times – 1932, 1936, and 1948 – and was only one of three Americans to compete in both the 1936 and 1948 Olympics in track & field. He also won the AAU title in the event in 1936, 1939, and 1948. Crosbie had a long career, competing in the AAU 50 km. walk from 1932 (2nd) thru at least 1951 (5th). He was a Michigan State graduate who was later employed by Oldsmobile when he worked in Baltimore, and then was with Bethlehem Steel.
Personal Best: 50 km. Walk – 5-04:30 (1948).
