个人信息

George Lee took up running seriously in 1906, at age of 20, and his first performance of note was in June that year, when he won a mile race at Bishop Auckland. He joined the newly formed Durham City Harriers, and won a good quality 2-mile race at Seaham Harbour in 1908. At the start of the 1909 season, he won the North-Eastern Counties Junior Cross-country Championship. A few months later, at Stamford Bridge, in July, Lee finished a creditable fifth in the four miles on his AAA Championship début, with eight top runners finishing behind him. He regularly mixed track running with cross-country and, after finishing third in the AAA 5,000 metres Olympic trial in May 1912, he was selected for both the 5,000- and 10,000 metres at the Olympics. In 1913 Lee finished fourth in the Northern Countries Cross-country Championship, and a month later was selected to represent England in the International Championship in France. He was part of the winning England team and placed fourth in the individual race, being pipped on the line by Frenchman Jacques Keyser.

Personal Bests: 5000 – 15:21.2e (1912); 10000 – unknown.
