Foil fencer Eberhard Mehl participated in two consecutive Olympic Games, in 1960 and 1964, with the mixed German team. With the German team he earned a bronze medal in 1960 and reached the quarterfinals in 1964. For his bronze medal in 1960, he was honored with the Silver Bay Leaf, the highest sports award in Germany.
Mehl became a graduate teacher for sports and art in Koblenz. In addition to his job he built up a fencing department at Coblenzer Turngesellschaft. He also worked as a youth coach until 1982 at Königsbacher SC Koblenz. Among others he coached Wiradech Kothny.
