Gary Crawford competed for the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club and later skiied for 2½ years for Western State College. He competed internationally in Nordic combined for 12 years, competing at two Winter Olympics and the 1982 World Championships. But Crawford also worked hard at becoming a top-level golfer. After his ski career ended, he coached with the Ability Team for three years (1994-97), and then became the head golf professional at the Sheraton Steamboat Golf Club, after spending eight years there as the assistant pro. But he continues to coach skiing, serving as Nordic combined development coach for the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club. Crawford's father, Marvin Crawford, skied for the US at the 1956 Winter Olympics, in Nordic combined and cross-country relay.
