Don Haldeman finished only 17th in trapshooting at the 1972 Olympics, but by 1976 he had improved all the way to first. His other successes in trapshooting include a team gold and individual silver at the 1975 Pan-American Games, a 1975 National Championship, and the 1972 Inter-Service Championship. Haldeman was a machinist and gunsmith in the army and designed the gunstock that was used at the 1976 Olympics by both himself and teammate, Charvin Dixon.
